Teeth Whitening

Let us know at any appointment if you would like to whiten your teeth! Provided you do not have active decay that needs to be first addressed, you may be a candidate for whitening. An assessment to determine this will be necessary, and could be completed in conjunction with your routine cleaning and check up. Please note that only natural teeth can be whitened and the results can be affected by regular consumption of staining agents such as coffee, tea, wine, berries, or any highly colored food. Medications can also cause long term staining and can prevent patients from achieving the level of whitening they are looking for. At your assessment, these considerations will be discussed with you and any questions you may have will be answered.

We offer two options for whitening. The first option is a take home kit which includes whitening trays and a supply of whitening gel. First we book you in for impressions to make the trays that hold the whitening gel next to your teeth. Depending on our schedule, the trays could be ready for pick up as early as that same day. With this take home option you are able to whiten at your own pace, and we recommend you wear them for 30 minutes at a time, once or twice per day. This kit is complimentary for patients who attend our clinic on a regular 6 month basis for ongoing hygiene maintenance. When your teeth reach the desired brightness, only occasional treatment is needed to maintain your new smile.

The second option is an In-House whitening session which runs for 90 minutes. During this session your gums will be isolated and whitening gel will be applied to teeth within your visible smile. This process will happen 3 times, and at the end of the session your teeth are often up to 3-4 shades lighter than before. For patients who need whitening completed in a short period of time, this is the preferable option. The fee for this in-house whitening session is $350.00.

Dental whitening can be used to correct tooth discoloration. Discolorations can be caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. Using the latest in whitening technology, we can offer a safe method for creating a brighter smile. In cases of extreme tooth discoloration, crowns or veneers may be the only choice, but because of the low cost of whitening treatments, teeth whitening is nearly always worth a try!

Considerations for Teeth Whitening

Over-the-counter whitening agents are available for purchase at drug stores and pharmacies, and these products can offer a safe at home option for whitening. The products we recommend to our patients have a stronger formulation and so you can get the results you’re looking for more quickly. Not everyone however, is an immediate candidate for whitening, so we will assess your smile to ensure you are. In the event you have other needs that must be addressed first, we will work with you to complete this necessary treatment to get you on track for whitening! Once you embark on your whitening journey, you can feel confident that whitening is safe for you personally, and that you will not cause harm to your teeth or increase pain and sensitivity.
